Session Guide
The best place to start is by curating your vision for your session. Gather anything that inspires you and create a visual to help you plan your wardrobe, choose a location, session time (desired light), hair/makeup, and any appropriate props. I will help you with all these things as much as you would like, but this can give you a starting point. Please remember this is only inspiration, your session will be unique to you and reflective of my shooting/editing style but it helps to have something to reference back to!
This may sound self explanatory but what you see (meaning what you style) is what will be reflected when it comes to your session. If you want a romantic/whimsical styled session but show up with heavy makeup or perfectly curled hair you will likely not get the end result you are hoping for. This is where a mood board can be really helpful; make sure to take note of:
-
why you are drawn to the images that you are
-
what time of day the images were taken/the lighting situation
-
what colours are in the images
-
if there are people in your inspiration images note what style of clothing are they wearing, what colors are they wearing, how heavy or polished the hair/makeup is, accessories, note the absence/presence of logos on clothing

Color Palette
The colour of your wardrobe has a great deal of impact on the final result of your gallery and can change mood and emphasis of your images. Consider if you want dramatic images, soft images, colourful images- choose the colour palette with your intended outcome in mind.
Here are some sample colour palettes to get you started:
-
All creams, browns. A light and earthy colour palette with more organic textures like knits and cottons. This palette lends to a more balance
-
Consider dark vs light denim. A lighter denim recedes more whereas a darker denim is more likely to draw your attention. Think of your choice in contrast with the location and other pieces in your wardrobe.
-
There is something modern about an all black wardrobe for a photo session

Location: Maternity Session
When it comes to your maternity session there are more options as weather is less of a limiting factor. That being said if you would like photos of your exposed bump then you need to consider if it will be warm enough outside to do so (for those of you with winter pregnancies)!
Here are a few suggestions of locations in and around saskatoon:
-
Gabriel Dumont park, Fred Mitchell Park, Garbiel Dumont Park
-
Furdale, Cranberry Flats, Chapell Marsh
-
White Space Studios
-
University of Saskatchewan

Location: Newborn Session
When it comes to newborn sessions I do recommend keeping the location somewhere more low key: somewhere you will feel comfortable if baby needs a feed/change/cry and that does't have the potential for temperature extremes. If the weather is nice enough of course we can pop outside, but I do not recommend planning your newborn session to be outdoors.
Here are a few suggestions of locations in and around saskatoon:
-
In home, honestly this is my preferred location as it can be quiet, slow and move at your pace. You also have everything you need for a blow out or spit up without having to worry about packing.
-
In studio (white space: soho, Brooklyn). Especially during the winter months or if your home is lacking in light, a studio newborn session is a great alternative while remaining indoors.
-
We can pop out into your backyard, the park across the street, that sort of thing (as long as weather permits!)

The Session
Please try to arrive no later than 5 minutes prior to your session time so that we can use the most of our time together.
Note that maternity sessions range from 1-2 hours in length to give enough time to create and provide a slow pace to the session. Newborn sessions may be shorter in length depending on how baby is doing and how you are feeling, ensuring a balance between providing you with a beautiful gallery and making sure you feel comfortable at all times.
Final Note:
Again I am so so excited to be working with you to bring your vision to life. My hope is that you come as you are and trust me to create something really beautiful. It is ok to feel nervous, it is ok if baby cries, it is ok to not know "what to do"-- I'm here to help walk you through all of it. Can't wait!
